Lake Tekapo / Mount Cook Weekend Away

Day 1

Morning: Depart from Christchurch, heading south through the Canterbury Plains. Along the way, we’ll stop for a morning tea break in the charming town of Geraldine.
Midday: Arrive in Tekapo and enjoy lunch by the turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo. Kids will visit the famous Church of the Good Shepherd, one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks.
Afternoon: Explore Tekapo’s lakeside trails and relax before settling into our accommodation.
Evening: Experience the world-renowned Dark Sky Reserve with a stargazing tour. Kids will marvel at the constellations, planets, and the breathtaking Milky Way! 🌠

Day 2

Morning: After breakfast, we head to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand’s tallest mountain. On the way, enjoy stunning views of Lake Pukaki’s bright blue waters.
Midday: Arrive at Mount Cook Village and embark on the Hooker Valley Track, a family-friendly walk with suspension bridges, glacier views, and photo-worthy landscapes. Kids will learn about the region’s unique environment along the way.
Afternoon: Visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre for an interactive experience showcasing Mount Cook’s history, mountaineering, and the legend of Sir Edmund Hillary.
Evening: Return to Tekapo for dinner and a relaxing evening at the accommodation.

Day 3

Morning: Start the day with a visit to the Tekapo Springs Hot Pools for a fun and relaxing soak. Kids can enjoy the waterslide or explore the area’s scenic surroundings.
Midday: Begin the journey back to Christchurch, stopping for lunch at a local café in Fairlie, famous for its pies! 🥧
Afternoon: Arrive in Christchurch by late afternoon, with plenty of stories, photos, and memories from an incredible three-day adventure.
